Okay, so this is one of those weird licensed Game Boy Color games that has almost nothing to do with the movie it's based on. You'd think it's a port of the PlayStation version with that same iconic cover art, but nope—totally different game. You play as some random astronaut (not Heston) crash-landing on the ape planet, running through jungles and ruins while dodging angry gorillas with spears.
The controls are... well, it's a GBC platformer from the late 90s, so expect some jank. You’ve got a basic gun that feels like it shoots wet paper, and the level design makes you backtrack way too much. Still, there’s something charming about the chunky pixel apes and the fact that someone greenlit this bizarre little side-story. If you’re deep into obscure movie tie-ins, it’s a curiosity worth five minutes of your time.
