Game Overview

Pocket King (Japan) is one of those weird little Game Boy Color games that somehow sticks with you. At first glance, it's just another card battler, but the moment you start dueling, you realize there's something special here—the cards have this goofy, exaggerated energy, like someone took a Saturday morning anime and crammed it into a deck.

Matches are quick but surprisingly tactical. You'll lose a few rounds to that smug cat samurai early on before figuring out how to counter him, and by then, you're already hooked. The art's got that classic late-'90s Japanese charm—lots of bright colors and characters that look like they stepped out of a manga no one ever translated.

It never got an English release, which is a shame, but honestly, half the fun is piecing together what's happening through sheer trial and error. If you've got a soft spot for forgotten GBC games or just want a card game that doesn't take itself too seriously, this one's worth digging up.
