The battles run smooth, though some of the wild encounters hit harder than you'd expect. I lost to a trainer's overleveled Pidgeotto because I got careless, which was annoying but also weirdly refreshing. The new Pokemon designs blend in well—at first glance you might not even realize some aren't from the official games.

It's got that classic grind, but with enough little surprises to keep it interesting. Pokemon Amaryllis doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it nails the feel of those old-school adventures.
