Game Overview

Pokémon Platinum on the DS still holds up as one of the best in the series—it’s basically Diamond and Pearl but with way more polish. You start in Sinnoh like usual, picking your starter (I always go with Chimchar, but good luck if you take Piplup against the first gym). The pacing’s better here, and the Distortion World section with Giratina? Still one of the weirdest, coolest moments in any Pokémon game.

They added the Battle Frontier post-game, which is brutal but satisfying if you’re into grinding perfect teams. And yeah, the sprites look sharper than Diamond/Pearl, though don’t expect modern graphics—it’s very much a DS-era charm. If you’ve only played the newer games, this one’s a great way to see why people still obsess over the older titles.
