Pokemon Fluorite is one of those fan-made GBA roms that feels familiar but still has its own charm. The first thing you notice is how the overworld sprites have this slightly different palette, like everything's a bit more saturated than the official games.

Early on, you get some unusual starter options, not just the usual fire/water/grass trio. I picked this weird electric-type rodent thing that ended up being way stronger than I expected. The routes twist around in ways that make the region feel bigger than it is, with little hidden items tucked behind trees if you bother to check.

Some of the trainer battles can catch you off guard - there's this one guy with a full team of poison types that wrecked me the first time because I wasn't paying attention. The music's decent, mostly remixes of classic tracks but with a few original tunes mixed in. Pokemon Fluorite doesn't reinvent anything, but it's a solid rom hack if you want something new to play on an emulator.
