Pokemon Jade was an unofficial Game Boy Color release, a fan made project that surfaced in the early 2000s. It exists in that gray area of the platform's history, long after the official mainline titles had wrapped up, made by enthusiasts rather than a known developer or publisher. You find a new region to explore, built with the familiar tools of the era but offering a different set of creatures to discover.

You control a young trainer, as usual, and your goal is to collect eight gym badges and challenge the Pokemon League. The game relies on the series' standard mechanics of turn based battles, type matchups, and capturing wild Pokemon with Poke Balls. It introduces its own roster of creatures, some original and others edited from existing sprites, and typically features a new region map to navigate. The pacing can feel uneven, with difficulty spikes that require more grinding than the official games. It feels like exploring a well made secret, a new adventure built from a template you already know by heart.
