Game Overview

Pokémon Neo: Adventure (Red) is one of those fan-made hacks that actually gets it right—it feels like the original Game Boy games, but with enough little tweaks to keep you guessing. The first time I booted it up, I expected the same old Kanto grind, but nope—wild Pokémon I’d never seen in Viridian Forest, Brock’s gym actually putting up a fight, and this weirdly satisfying rebalance that makes underused 'mons way more viable.

It’s still recognizably Pokémon Red at its core, just… sharper? Like someone went through and fixed all the janky bits (looking at you, Psychic-type dominance) while tossing in surprises—hidden areas, remixed teams, even some post-game stuff that wasn’t in the original. If you’ve ever thought, "Man, I wish this game had just a bit more bite," this’ll scratch that itch without losing the nostalgia.

Also, shoutout to whoever decided Geodude should learn Rock Slide early. Absolute game-changer.
