Pokemon Pokeverse is one of those GBA roms that feels familiar but still has its own quirks. You start in a small town, pick your starter, and immediately get thrown into tall grass full of wild pokemon. The early game is a grind, but in a way that makes you want to keep going just to see what pops up next.

What stands out is how the world opens up after the first gym. Some routes have weirdly high-level pokemon lurking around, which keeps you on your toes. I remember wandering into a cave unprepared and getting wrecked by a wild graveler five levels above my team. Had to reset, but it made me rethink how I was exploring.

The battles are standard turn-based stuff, but the trainer fights can get surprisingly tough if you're not paying attention. Pokemon Pokeverse doesn't hold your hand much, which I like. It's a solid rom for when you want that classic pokemon feel with just enough surprises to keep it fresh.
