Game Overview

Pokemon Stadium came out on the Nintendo 64 in 1999, developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of those games that felt like a natural extension of the handheld Pokemon experience, bringing the creatures into a three dimensional space on a home console for the first time.

You don't control a trainer in the overworld; instead, you manage your team of six Pokemon and guide them through turn based battles against either the computer or another player. The main goal is to win tournaments in the Stadium mode, which unlocks new cups and stronger opponents. Two of its signature mechanics are the ability to import Pokemon from the Game Boy games via the Transfer Pak, and the inclusion of a variety of mini games that are perfect for multiplayer. The pacing is straightforward, though the later cups can get quite difficult, requiring well bred and leveled teams. It feels like finally seeing your pocket monsters come to life in your living room.
