You still get that warm, fuzzy GBA-era nostalgia—the rustling grass, the weirdly catchy bike music—but now gym leaders actually make you sweat, and random trainers don’t just spam Tackle like idiots.

They’ve tossed in some Mega Evolutions (because why not?), rebalanced a bunch of Pokémon so your favorites might actually be useful, and hidden little surprises that’ll make you pause mid-route. Team Magma’s still up to their usual nonsense, but battles feel less like a cakewalk and more like, well, a fight. If you’ve played Ruby a dozen times, this version’s got enough twists to feel fresh without losing what made the original special.
