Pokemon UltraViolet is one of those fan-made GBA hacks that feels like a fresh take on the classic formula. The early game throws you into familiar territory, but with enough tweaks to keep you guessing—new Pokemon in old routes, altered gym rosters, that kind of thing.

I remember grinding through the first few gyms, thinking I had it figured out, only to get blindsided by a trainer with a team I didn’t expect. The balance is just different enough to make battles feel unpredictable, even if you’ve played the originals a hundred times.
