Pokemon Unbound is a GBA rom hack that feels like a proper new Pokemon game rather than just a tweaked version of an old one. The first thing you notice is how different the region looks, with darker caves and towns that actually feel lived in.

Early on, you get thrown into this mystery involving shadow Pokemon and some shady organization, which immediately sets it apart from the usual gym challenge formula. The difficulty spikes can be brutal though, especially if you're used to vanilla games where you can steamroll everything with your starter.

What really stuck with me was how much post-game content there is. After the credits roll, you realize you've barely scratched the surface. Pokemon Unbound doesn't just give you a region to explore, it gives you reasons to keep coming back.
