Game Overview

Primal Rage came out for the Super Nintendo in 1995, developed by Atari Games. It was a time when fighting games were everywhere, but this one stood out by letting you control giant prehistoric beasts instead of martial artists. The game had a certain crude charm that felt right at home on the SNES, a system known for both polished classics and weird experiments.

You pick one of several dinosaur-like gods and battle another monster across a few stages. The main goal is to deplete your opponent's health bar using a mix of basic attacks, projectiles like thrown rocks or spit, and special moves executed with fighting game style inputs. You can also eat the tiny humans running around the stage to regain health. The pacing is slower than most human vs. human fighters, and the difficulty can spike depending on your chosen character. It feels chaotic and silly in a way that makes winning by hurling a boulder especially satisfying.
