Game Overview

Railroad Empire is one of those old-school train sims that somehow makes laying tracks and managing schedules weirdly addictive. You start with a blank map—either the U.S. or Europe—and have to connect major cities with a rail network that actually makes sense. No fancy freight here, just passengers, which sounds simple until you realize you’re dealing with single-track lines where trains can (and will) crash if you don’t plan carefully.

The day/night cycle is a neat twist—you can only build during daylight, and tweaking schedules happens after dark. There’s something oddly satisfying about watching your little trains chug along while you scramble to reroute them around mountains or rivers. And yeah, you’ll probably bankrupt your company a few times before figuring out the best routes.

It’s not as overwhelming as some later train sims, but that’s part of the charm. If you’ve ever wanted to run a railroad without the spreadsheets, this is the one to try.
