Game Overview

Release the Prisoner is one of those MS-DOS Classic Games releases from the early 1990s that doesn't get talked about much, but it has a certain quiet appeal. I don't recall the developer offhand, but it fits right in with the kind of experimental, puzzle-focused titles that were common on the platform back then. It's not flashy, just straightforward and challenging in its own way.

You control a lone hero tasked with infiltrating a fortress to rescue prisoners held behind bars. The gameplay is methodical; you move screen by screen through maze-like corridors, avoiding or outsmarting patrolling guards. Your main tools are distraction and timing; you can lure enemies into traps or lock them in rooms to clear your path. There's no direct combat, so every move requires careful thought. The difficulty is unforgiving, with one mistake often sending you back to the start of a level. Playing it feels like a tense game of cat and mouse where patience is your greatest weapon.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
