Renegade for the Sega Master System came out in 1987, developed and published by Sega. It was one of those early beat 'em ups on the system, a straightforward brawler that didn't try to overcomplicate things. At the time, it offered a simple, focused alternative to some of the more sprawling action games.

You control a street fighter moving through urban environments, clearing each screen of enemies before progressing. The main goal is to defeat all opponents in an area, using punches, kicks, and grapples. Signature mechanics include throwing enemies to the ground and attacking them while they're down, as well as navigating multi-level stages with occasional platforming. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty can feel unforgiving, with aggressive enemies that demand precise timing. It feels raw and immediate, like a scrappy fight where every move counts.
