Game Overview

Renegade on the Sega Master System is where the whole Kunio-kun beat 'em up craze started—though here, it's Brooklyn streets instead of Japanese schoolyards. You play as this tough guy trying to save his kidnapped girlfriend, which basically means punching, kicking, and headbutting your way through subway thugs, dockyard goons, and back alleys full of jerks.

The fighting feels clunky by today's standards, but there's something weirdly satisfying about the exaggerated animations—like when you land a flying kick and the enemy goes spinning off-screen. It’s got that old-school arcade vibe where everything’s a little over-the-top, from the goofy sound effects to the way enemies dramatically clutch their stomachs after a punch.

Five short levels, but they pack in enough variety (and cheap enemy AI) to keep you retrying. Just don’t expect deep storytelling—your motivation begins and ends with "rescue the girl." Still, it’s a neat little time capsule if you’re into early brawlers.
