Game Overview

Renegade on MS-DOS is one of those old-school beat 'em ups that feels brutal in the best way. You play as this lone vigilante (Mr. K if you’ve played the NES version) taking on entire gangs to save your girlfriend—classic 80s revenge story, right? The levels don’t scroll; instead, you’re stuck in these tight, two-screen-wide zones like subway platforms and alleys, which makes every fight feel claustrophobic and desperate.

First few minutes in, you’re already getting jumped by thugs—some hit hard but go down easy, others tank hits but love grabbing you from behind. Mess up the timing, and suddenly you’re getting pummeled from all sides. Then, just when you think you’ve cleared the riffraff, the stage boss strolls in like he owns the place. The second level throws bikers at you first, which is a nice (by which I mean terrifying) change of pace.

Stage three? All women, and their boss is this towering lady who barely flinches when you hit her. And the final level? Pure nightmare fuel—knife guys who one-shot you, followed by a mobster with a gun just as deadly. Beat him, and your girlfriend shows up for a victory kiss… before the whole thing loops, harder this time. It’s janky, punishing, and weirdly satisfying once you get the rhythm down. Definitely a relic, but the kind that makes you appreciate how far brawlers have come.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
