Rise of the Triad: Dark War came out in 1994 from Apogee Software, right in the thick of the MS-DOS era when first-person shooters were still figuring out what they could be. It was a time of shareware episodes and chunky pixelated violence, and this game fit right in with its over-the-top style and fast-paced action.

You control a member of an elite strike team sent to stop a dangerous cult on a remote island. Your goal is to fight through each level, clearing out enemies and finding the exit, often by hunting for keys or hitting switches. The game stands out with its exaggerated arsenal, including the multi-missile launching Drunk Missile Launcher and the screen-clearing Excalibat. Levels are packed with traps, secret areas, and occasional platforming challenges, all delivered at a breakneck pace that keeps you alert. It feels like controlled chaos from start to finish.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
