Game Overview

Rockman EXE: Operate Shooting Star came out for the Nintendo DS in 2009, developed and published by Capcom. It was a remake of the first Battle Network game, released during a period when the DS library was full of inventive hybrids of genres, and this one tried to blend action RPG and card battling mechanics into something distinct.

You control Lan and his NetNavi, MegaMan, navigating both the real world and the cyber world in a split-screen format. The main goal is to stop a global cyber-terrorism plot by battling rogue programs and human conspirators. The combat uses a real-time card battle system where you select attack chips from a custom folder, and positioning on a grid-based battlefield is key to dodging and landing hits. Outside of battle, you explore areas screen by screen, talk to characters to advance the story, and solve simple environmental puzzles. The pacing is brisk, with frequent, short battles that demand quick decisions rather than grinding. It feels like a fast-paced puzzle fight where every move counts.
