Game Overview

Rockman X - Cyber Mission (Japan) is a Game Boy Color gem that slots right between Mega Man X2 and X3. It’s basically the first time you could take X’s dash-and-blast action on the go, and for a handheld title, it nails the feel of the SNES games surprisingly well.

You’ve got your classic Maverick bosses, weapon stealing, and those tight platforming sections that’ll make you sweat a little. The sprites are tiny, sure, but they pack in enough detail that you can still tell when X is charging his buster or when an enemy’s about to lunge. Some of the level designs get creative with the GBC’s limits—expect a few “wait, how do I even get up there?” moments.

If you’ve played the mainline X games, this one’s a fun little side trip. Just don’t expect Zero to bail you out this time.
