Rockman X - Cyber Mission came out in 2000 for the Game Boy Color, developed by Capcom. It was part of a wave of portable action games that tried to capture the feel of bigger console titles, with mixed results. The hardware limitations were obvious, but it was still a solid attempt to bring Mega Man X's style to a handheld.
You control X, moving through side scrolling stages, shooting enemies and avoiding environmental hazards. The main goal is to defeat eight Maverick bosses, each granting a new weapon. Signature mechanics include screen by screen exploration, where you often backtrack with new abilities to access hidden areas, and the ability to charge your buster shot for more powerful attacks. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially during boss fights. It feels satisfying to master the controls and finally take down a tough stage after a few tries.
