Play Rocky and Bullwinkle Online

Bounce around as Bullwinkle—clumsy, heavy, hilarious—or zip through levels as Rocky, dodging Boris’ awful disguises and the game’s deliberately unfair platforming. It’s the cartoon’s chaos in 16-bit form.

Game Overview

I remember picking up Rocky and Bullwinkle for the Sega Genesis back in 1992. It was developed by Absolute Entertainment, and it felt like a pretty typical licensed platformer for its time. The graphics had that bright, Saturday morning cartoon look, and the music was catchy in that early 90s way. It wasn't trying to reinvent the wheel, just give fans a chance to step into the shoes of those characters.

You control either Rocky or Bullwinkle, switching between them to tackle different obstacles. Rocky flies through some sections, avoiding enemies and collecting items, while Bullwinkle handles the ground based platforming, which involves a lot of jumping, albeit with a very heavy, bouncy feel. The main goal is to stop Boris and Natasha by progressing through a series of side scrolling levels, each broken into smaller screens you move between. The pacing is slow, mostly because Bullwinkle moves like he's stuck in molasses, and the difficulty can be unforgiving with some cheap enemy placements. Playing it feels like wrestling with the controller more than the villains on screen.
