Sim City Jr came out on the Super Nintendo in 1995, developed by Maxis. It was part of that wave of games trying to bring complex computer simulations to a console audience, simplifying the formula just enough to work with a controller.
You play as the mayor, placing residential, commercial, and industrial zones on a grid while managing a budget for services like power and police. The main goal is to grow a thriving city without going bankrupt or letting disasters wreck everything. Key mechanics include drawing roads to connect everything and responding to constant citizen requests, which pop up as little thought bubbles. The pace is fairly relaxed, letting you build at your own speed, though financial mismanagement can create a slow, cascading failure. It feels like running a very colorful, slightly unpredictable ant farm.
