Game Overview

Solar Winds: Galaxy came out in 1993 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Epic MegaGames. It was one of those space exploration titles that felt right at home in the era of shareware, where you could dive into a sprawling universe without a massive manual or a steep learning curve.

You pilot a small starship, navigating sector by sector, trading goods, taking on missions, and engaging in real-time combat with pirates or hostile factions. The main goal is to build your reputation and wealth, often by completing contracts for various alien races, though you can also choose to smuggle contraband or hunt bounties. Key mechanics include managing your ship's energy and shields during fights, scanning planets for resources or missions, and upgrading your vessel with better weapons and engines. The pacing is open; you can spend hours just trading between safe systems or jump into risky conflicts for bigger rewards. It feels like carving your own path through a unpredictable, living galaxy.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
