Sonic Advance 2 came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by Dimps and published by SEGA and THQ. It was part of that early 2000s wave of Sonic games that tried to bring the series' speed and style to handhelds, and it fit right in with what people expected from the blue blur on a small screen.
You control Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, or Cream the Rabbit, each with unique abilities, as you sprint through side-scrolling stages filled with loops, springs, and enemies. The main goal is to get to the end of each act, defeat the boss, and eventually take down Dr. Eggman. Signature mechanics include grinding on rails, performing trick moves after big jumps to earn extra speed, and hunting for the hidden Chaos Emeralds by meeting specific stage conditions. The game moves fast and can get pretty tough, especially if you're aiming for 100% completion. It feels satisfying to build momentum and pull off smooth runs through the colorful, obstacle-packed levels.
