Sonic Advance 2 came out on the Game Boy Advance in 2003, developed by Dimps and published by Sega. It was part of that early 2000s wave of handheld Sonic games, a time when the series was trying to balance classic speed with new ideas. The game built on the first Sonic Advance but pushed the speed and level design even further.
You control Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, or Amy, each with their own abilities, as you race through multi-route stages filled with loops, ramps, and enemies. The main goal is to reach the end of each zone, defeat the boss, and eventually confront Dr. Eggman. Key mechanics include the new trick system, which lets you perform mid-air flips to gain speed and height, and the requirement to collect all seven Chaos Emeralds by completing special stages. The pacing is relentless, and later stages demand precise timing and quick reactions. It feels like a constant test of reflexes, rewarding you with smooth, high-speed runs when everything clicks.
