This is the one that started it all—Sonic’s first adventure, but with a fresh coat of paint thanks to Puto’s hack. You’ve still got those classic loop-de-loops and checkerboard hills, but everything feels a little sharper, a little smoother. The speed’s still insane, especially when you nail a perfect run through Green Hill Zone and barely touch the ground.

What’s wild is how much personality they packed into a Genesis game. Sonic’s got that cocky little foot-tap when he’s idle, and the way he curls into a ball mid-jump just feels right. The hack doesn’t mess with the core physics, so it’s still that same mix of precision platforming and hold-right-to-win chaos. Just don’t get too reckless—those bottomless pits don’t care how fast you are.

If you’ve played the original a million times, this version gives you an excuse to do it all over again.
