Nintendo released Space Invaders for the Game Boy Color in 1999, a portable version of the arcade classic that fit right into the era of pocket gaming. You control a laser cannon at the bottom of the screen, moving left and right to avoid enemy fire while shooting rows of descending aliens. The main goal is to eliminate every invader before they reach the bottom or you run out of lives. Key mechanics include taking cover behind destructible barriers and occasionally shooting the mysterious flying saucer for bonus points. The pace is methodical but urgent, with the aliens' movement speeding up as their numbers thin. It feels satisfying to pick off the last few invaders while dodging a hail of pixelated bullets.
