I picked up the 1997 SNES version of Space Invaders from Taito, a straightforward port of the original arcade game. It felt like a piece of history on the console, a simple concept from a different time brought into the 16-bit era without much fuss or alteration.

You control a lone laser cannon at the bottom of the screen, moving left and right to shoot rows of descending aliens before they reach the bottom. The main objective is to clear each wave, using the four stationary barriers for cover, though they break apart under fire. The aliens move in a slow, methodical pattern, but their speed increases as you eliminate more, creating a real sense of pressure. It feels tense and focused, a pure test of precision and timing under a steadily rising threat.
