Spider-Man 2 on the Nintendo DS came out in 2005, published by Activision. It was one of those early DS titles that tried to make use of the touch screen in a meaningful way, back when developers were still figuring out what the system could really do. The game loosely follows the plot of the movie, but it carves its own path with some unique mechanics that set it apart from other handheld superhero games of the time.

You control Spider-Man through a mix of side-scrolling and isometric levels, swinging between buildings with stylus swipes on the touch screen. The main goal is to stop Doc Ock and other villains, which involves a lot of web-slinging, combat, and occasional stealth segments. Fights use a combo system where you tap enemies to attack and swipe to dodge; boss battles, especially against Doc Ock, require careful timing and pattern recognition. The pacing is fairly brisk, though some sections can feel repetitive if you get stuck on a tricky enemy encounter. It’s a game that makes you feel clever when the controls click, but frustrated when they don’t.
