Game Overview

Spirit: L'Etalon des Plaines is one of those rare movie tie-in games that actually gets it right. You play as Spirit, the wild mustang from the animated film, and yeah—it feels surprisingly good to just be a horse. Galloping across open plains, kicking up dust, and occasionally bucking off some poor cowboy who thought he could tame you.

The pixel art nails the movie’s sweeping landscapes, and the controls are smooth—no clunky jumps or awkward turns. It’s mostly racing with some light adventure bits, but the real charm is in the little details, like how Spirit’s mane whips in the wind or the way the music swells when you hit full speed. Definitely not what I expected from a GBA licensed game.

If you’ve got nostalgia for the film or just want something different from the usual platformers, this one’s a solid pick. Just don’t blame me when you start neighing at strangers.
