Game Overview

Remember when sports games didn’t need hyper-realistic graphics to be fun? Sports Illustrated Championship Football & Baseball on SNES nails that old-school vibe—two decent sports sims in one cartridge, with just enough jank to feel authentic. The football side’s got simple play-calling and surprisingly smooth running plays, while baseball has that satisfying crack when you connect with a fastball. It’s not technically great by today’s standards, but there’s something about the chunky pixel players and Sports Illustrated menu screens that makes it feel like renting a game from Blockbuster in 1994.

Best part? You can absolutely cheese the AI in baseball by throwing nothing but high fastballs. My cousin still hasn’t forgiven me for discovering that trick during our last matchup. The nostalgia hits harder than a linebacker blitz.
