Pick your crew, then sweat over every decision—do you trust that alien ship or shoot first? One wrong move and you're watching your oxygen tick down while the hull cracks.

Star Command came out in 1988 from Strategic Simulations, Inc. for MS-DOS, a time when space strategy games were still figuring out what they could be. It didn't have flashy graphics, even for then, but it asked you to think, not just react. You managed a starship and its crew, making it one of those deeper, slower games that really made you own your choices.
You control the entire crew of a single ship, assigning officers to stations like navigation, engineering, and weapons. Your main job is to survive encounters with other vessels, which usually means out-thinking them in tactical combat. The game plays out screen by screen, with a key mechanic being the internal management of your ship's systems; a hit to engineering might knock out your shields, forcing you to send a crew member to make frantic repairs. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is punishing, ensuring that every engagement feels consequential. It feels like being a stressed-out captain trying to keep a fragile tin can from flying apart at the seams.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
