Game Overview

Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron came out for the PlayStation Portable in 2007, developed by Rebellion and published by LucasArts. It was one of those solid handheld shooters that made the PSP feel like a real console in your pocket, especially if you were into big, messy battles with a Star Wars skin.

You control a soldier in the Renegade Squadron, a ragtag group put together by Han Solo, and your main goal is to complete objectives across different planets and space zones. The game lets you customize your soldier's class and gear on the fly, and you can commandeer vehicles like AT-STs or TIE Fighters whenever you find them. Matches are fast and often chaotic, with AI soldiers and other players (via ad-hoc) filling out the fight. It feels like a smaller, portable version of the console Battlefront games, but the ability to jump from ground combat to piloting a ship in the same match keeps things interesting. Playing it gives you that satisfying sense of being in the middle of a large, unfolding battle, even on a small screen.
