You wander weird empty fields in janky 3D, then suddenly you're side-scrolling through dungeons swinging swords—somehow it clicks after a while. The first-person story bits actually pull you in without drowning you in text.

Game Overview

Super Drakkhen (or Dragon View if you're in the US) is this weird little SNES action-RPG that feels like three different games stitched together—and somehow, it works. At first glance, the overworld throws you into this janky pseudo-3D perspective where you’re just wandering through empty fields, but then you hit a town or dungeon and suddenly it’s a side-scroller with sword swings and magic spells. Took me a minute to adjust, but the combat’s actually pretty satisfying once you get the timing down.

The story’s surprisingly decent for an early ‘90s RPG—no wall-of-text nonsense, just first-person narration that actually makes you feel like you’re uncovering something. And yeah, it’s technically a prequel to Drakkhen, but don’t worry if you never played that one (most people didn’t). Just expect to get lost a lot—the game doesn’t hold your hand, and half the fun is stumbling into some cursed temple because you took a wrong turn at the windmill. If you can handle the weirdness, there’s a real charm to it.
