Super Robot Taisen K is one of those DS games that makes you wish the 3DS had a proper sequel. You start off picking your squad from a wild mix of mechs—some are classic clunky tanks, others are sleek, borderline anime nonsense (in the best way). The first few battles feel like chess if your pawns had laser swords and existential crises.

What surprised me was how much the terrain actually matters. You can’t just brute-force your way through; positioning your units behind cover or luring enemies into choke points becomes second nature after a few skirmishes. And the combo attacks? Pure fan service when two mechs team up for an over-the-top finishing move.

It’s in Japanese, but the menus are intuitive enough that you’ll memorize the important icons fast. Just don’t expect to follow the story unless you’re fluent—half the drama boils down to angry robots shouting at each other anyway.
