Super Turrican came out on the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Factor 5. It was part of that wave of action games that really pushed the hardware, with big sprites and a lot of things happening on screen at once. It felt right at home among other intense, fast paced titles from that era.
You control a heavily armed soldier battling through alien environments. The goal is straightforward: fight to the end of each stage, defeat the boss, and survive. Your character can shoot in multiple directions, use a grappling hook to swing across gaps, and even morph into a wheel to quickly roll under low obstacles or crush enemies. The game moves quickly, throwing waves of foes and environmental hazards at you, and the difficulty is pretty relentless. It feels chaotic and demanding, but landing a perfect shot with the spread beam or narrowly escaping a trap makes it satisfying.
