Game Overview

Super Valis IV on SNES is a stripped-down but still fun take on the original Valis IV. You play as Lena, a rookie warrior trying to prove herself worthy of the legendary Valis sword—while stopping a power-crazed prince named Gallagher from wrecking the Dream World. The story’s simpler here (no Amu or Asfal like in the TurboGrafx version), but you still get that classic side-scrolling action with a fantasy twist.

Lena moves faster in this version, though she can’t slide like before. No magic bar either, and forget about hunting for HP upgrades—you’re stuck with whatever the game gives you. But you can find items that beef up your sword swings, which helps when the screen fills with enemies. The levels are shorter, and there’s less story between stages, so it’s more of a straight-up action game than the CD version. Not a bad thing if you just want to slash your way through weird dream monsters.

It’s not the definitive Valis IV, but the SNES port has its own charm—especially if you like quicker, no-frills platforming.
