Game Overview

Superstar Ice Hockey came out in 1987 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by DesignStar Consultants. It was a time when sports games on PC were still finding their footing, often relying on simple graphics and straightforward mechanics to capture the feel of the real thing. This game fit right into that era, offering a no-frills hockey experience that prioritized quick play over visual spectacle.

You control a team of five players plus a goalie, moving them up and down the rink with keyboard commands. The main objective is to outscore your opponent, which involves a lot of frantic passing and checking to gain control of the puck. Signature mechanics include body checking opponents to steal the puck and executing slap shots that require careful timing to aim. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, especially against aggressive computer opponents. It feels chaotic and immediate, like you're right in the middle of a scrappy, low-budget match.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
