I remember picking up SWIV 3D back in 1996, one of those MS-DOS releases from SCi Games Ltd. It came out during that transitional period when 3D graphics were still rough around the edges, but developers were eager to push the hardware. This one took the classic top-down shooter formula and gave it a polygonal twist, which felt ambitious for the time.
You pilot a helicopter or a jeep, depending on the stage, and your goal is to blast through waves of enemy vehicles and structures. The game uses a screen-by-screen progression system; you clear one area of enemies before moving to the next. Combat involves rapid firing and aiming rockets at ground targets while dodging return fire. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty can be punishing, especially in later levels. Playing it feels like a tense, high-stakes race against overwhelming odds.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
