Play Sword Fight Online

Sword Fight was a late release for the Atari 2600, coming out in 2000 from Atari themselves. It arrived long after the system's heyday, a simple two player duel game that felt like a throwback even when it was new. You and a friend each control a knight, and the goal is straightforward: knock the other player off the platform.

You move your knight left and right on a narrow walkway, using the joystick button to thrust your sword. The key is timing your jabs to hit your opponent while also blocking or dodging their attacks. If you're hit, you're knocked backward; fall off the edge and you lose a life. The pacing is quick, with rounds often ending in seconds, and the difficulty comes entirely from the person sitting next to you. It feels like a tense, physical game of chicken played out with minimal graphics and a lot of shouting.
