Play Test Drive 2001 Online

Start with a Lotus Elise, dodge traffic in Sydney, then upgrade to a Mustang—this little racer packs surprising speed for a Game Boy game. The isometric view feels weird at first, but nailing a tight drift past cops on the autobahn? Weirdly satisfying.

Game Overview

Test Drive 2001 on Game Boy Color is one of those racers that feels way bigger than it should for a handheld game. You start off with a Lotus Elise—which handles like a dream—but soon you're eyeing Mustangs and Jaguars as prize money rolls in. The isometric view takes some getting used to, but once it clicks, weaving through traffic in Sydney or blasting down German autobahns actually feels pretty satisfying.

There’s a decent mix of modes: time trials, tournaments where you grind for cash to upgrade your ride, and a chaotic Cop Chase mode where you play as the police (always fun). The two-player link cable races are a blast if you’ve got a friend with a copy—just don’t expect Gran Turismo-level realism. It’s more about arcade-style speed and barely making turns without wiping out.

For a GBC racer, the car selection and track variety still hold up surprisingly well. Just don’t blame me when you spend half an hour replaying the same race to afford that Viper.
