Tetris DS came out for the Nintendo DS in 2006, developed and published by Nintendo. You control the falling tetrominoes, rotating and shifting them to form solid lines that vanish from the screen. The main goal is to survive as long as possible by clearing lines and preventing the stack from reaching the top. Signature mechanics include the Versus mode, where sending lines to an opponent’s screen adds pressure, and special touch based puzzles that use the stylus for direct block manipulation. The pacing starts relaxed but escalates quickly, demanding faster decisions as the blocks drop more rapidly. It feels both intensely focused and surprisingly flexible, especially when playing with others.
