I picked up Tetris Plus for my Game Boy back in 1996, a release from Natsume that tried to add something new to a formula that was already perfect. It was a time when every puzzle game was trying to find a new angle, and this one offered a couple of interesting modes beyond the standard endless play.
You control the falling tetrominoes, as always, but the main draw is the Puzzle mode. Your goal is to clear a path for a little explorer character who moves down from the top of the screen; you have to strategically remove lines to let him reach the bottom of each pre-built stage. The blocks fall at a steady, manageable pace, but the pressure builds as you try to keep the path clear without letting the stack get too high. It feels like a clever, more deliberate kind of problem-solving compared to the pure speed of classic Tetris.
