I picked up Tetris Plus for the Game Boy back in 1996, a time when puzzle games were everywhere but few tried to mix things up. Natsume published it, and it was one of those titles that stood out just enough to catch my eye. It wasn't just another Tetris clone; it had a little more going on under the hood.

You control the falling blocks, as always, but now there's an explorer character moving down the screen who you need to guide safely to the bottom. The main goal is to clear a path for him while also dealing with enemies that get in the way. Two mechanics define the experience: Puzzle Mode, where each stage is a pre-designed layout you have to solve, and the constant pressure of keeping the explorer from getting crushed or caught. The pacing is tense; one misplaced block can trap him or let an enemy get too close. It feels like a careful, sometimes frantic balancing act between building and rescuing.
