Game Overview

I remember picking up The Carl Lewis Challenge back in 1992, part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection from Atari Corporation. It was one of those straightforward sports titles that felt right at home on a PC in the early 90s, no frills, just pure track and field action. You didn't need a fancy setup; a keyboard and some fast fingers were all it took to get into the game.

You control Carl Lewis himself, competing in a series of Olympic events like the 100-meter dash and the long jump. The main goal is simple: win gold by mashing the correct keys as fast as possible. Signature mechanics include alternating between two keys to build up sprint speed and timing a single press to launch your jump or clear a hurdle. The pacing is frantic, and the difficulty spikes quickly, especially when you mistime a hurdle and crash to the track. It feels like a test of endurance, both for your character and your keyboard, but nailing a perfect run delivers a genuine rush of satisfaction.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
