Game Overview

Ever wanted to get absolutely destroyed by a chess AI on your SNES? The Chessmaster is here to humble you. You move pieces with a little hand cursor—simple enough—but then the CPU starts calculating its next move, and suddenly you realize you’re in way over your head.

There’s a decent spread of difficulty levels, from "I just learned how pawns move" beginner settings all the way up to "this thing takes 4 minutes per move and still crushes me." The infinite thinking mode is kind of terrifying—it just won’t move until it finds the perfect play. You can also watch the AI battle itself, which is either educational or depressing, depending on how badly it just beat you.

Two-player mode works fine if you’ve got a friend who’s into chess, and the teaching mode highlights possible moves, which is nice when you’re still figuring out why your queen just got trapped. Just don’t expect mercy from the higher difficulties.
