Game Overview

I picked up The Ren & Stimpy Show - Veediots! for the Super Nintendo back in 1993, a game published by THQ. It was one of those many licensed platformers that flooded the system, trying to capture the chaotic energy of the cartoon. You don't see many people talk about it now, but it was definitely on the shelf next to more famous titles.

You control Ren Höek through a series of side scrolling levels, with the main goal being to find and rescue Stimpy in each stage. The gameplay involves standard jumping and attacking, but it has some weirdly specific mechanics. You collect items like rubber walrus protectors and invincibility toast, which is exactly what it sounds like. The levels are full of bizarre hazards, like sliding down alien esophaguses and avoiding sentient stomach acid. The pacing is frantic and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, often feeling more punishing than fun. Playing it feels like wrestling with a cartoon that refuses to follow its own rules.
