Game Overview

Rainbird Software released The Universal Military Simulator in 1987 for MS-DOS, a time when strategy games were often dense, text-heavy affairs that demanded patience and careful thought. It wasn't about flashy graphics; it was about the slow, deliberate process of out-thinking an opponent across a variety of historical and fictional battlefields, from ancient Rome to futuristic sci-fi conflicts.

You command individual units, represented by simple icons, across a grid-based map, maneuvering them into position for attacks while managing their limited supplies and morale. The main objective is to defeat the enemy force through superior tactics, using terrain for cover, flanking maneuvers, and combined arms assaults. The pacing is methodical, almost chess-like, and the difficulty is unrelenting, punishing any careless move with swift defeat. It feels like a genuine test of your ability to plan several steps ahead and adapt when those plans inevitably fall apart.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
