Tony Hawk’s American Sk8land on the DS is one of those rare handheld ports that actually nails the feel of the console games. The cel-shaded style gives it this cool comic book vibe, and the controls somehow translate surprisingly well to the tiny buttons—though nailing a perfect combo still takes practice.
You start by creating some ridiculous-looking skater (I went full neon spandex, no regrets) and then just… skate. The levels are packed with ramps, rails, and hidden spots to grind, and the trick system is deep enough that you’ll keep discovering new moves even after a few hours. The multiplayer’s a blast if you can find someone else with a copy, but even solo, it’s got that addictive "one more run" energy.
Also, the soundtrack is full of early 2000s punk and hip-hop bangers. You’ll be humming Goldfinger for days.
